Background
In 2023 the founder got to know a local organisation in Jinja that works for malnourished children and children with a disability. In 2024, together with dozens of donors, the plan arose for a project that goes beyond one-off aid: a basis from which the organisation can continue on its own.
Goal
Lasting self-reliance: its own production line for nutritious porridge for malnourished children, a plot of land as a permanent place for production and storage, and a festival that gives children a carefree day.
Execution
The project trip ran from 5 to 25 August 2024. On site, a small production line for nutritious porridge was set up, including a grinding mill and a fruit dryer. On 12 August 2024 a plot of 50 by 100 feet was bought (UGX 15,000,000); the purchase was confirmed by a lawyer. The plot is registered in the name of the organisation in Jinja and, under the agreed protection clause, may not be sold without the donor's written consent. A storage room was built on the plot. On 21 and 22 August the children's festival took place, with about fifty children per day, half of them with a disability. There was a bouncy castle, face painting, musical chairs and tug of war, among other things, and every child took home a set of school supplies.
Result
A working production line for nutritious porridge, a plot of land with storage space for the organisation in Jinja and a two-day children’s festival for about one hundred children. In 2024 the foundation spent € 11,591 on this project; the full account is in the annual documents for 2024. During the trip the water well in Muchanga was also checked: it is in use every day.
Good to know: This was a one-off collaboration. Our regular local partner is The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council in Kampala, with whom we have worked since 2022. More about this on the About us page.
The financial account of this project is included in the annual documents for 2024. You can find them on the transparency page.
