Children
Helping children in Africa
You can help children in Africa with things that make a direct difference: a made-to-measure wheelchair, a few months of nutritious porridge or a set of school supplies. That is what we did in Uganda in recent years, together with local partners. Below you can read what it achieved and how you can take part.

What did we do for children?
Wheelchairs and nutritious porridge
In the autumn of 2023, two children with a disability received a made-to-measure wheelchair, and twelve children received nutritious porridge for three months. A later gift also made care possible for a third child with a disability.
School supplies
At the children's festival in Jinja in 2024, every child received a set of school materials: exercise books, pens, rulers and maths sets. In the region, a child without such a set is often not admitted to school.
A day to play
The same festival lasted two days, for around a hundred children. Half of them had a disability and half did not, and they played together.
Where we help
Villages around Kampala
Our permanent partner, The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, is based in Kampala, the capital of Uganda. That is why we focus mainly on villages around Kampala where help is badly needed, such as Lweza and Bombo, where we distributed food parcels in 2022 and built the water well in 2023. The partner knows these villages and families, and together we choose where a project makes the biggest difference.

How to take part
How can you help?
You can give towards a next project for children, on your own or together with your family, class or club. Mention that your gift is for children and it will go there. You can read more about school and learning under our theme education. 2025 and 2026 are rest years. We raise money per project, and the next project starts in the autumn of 2027. Would you like to take part? Email us at info@stichtinghartvoorafrika.nl and we will let you know as soon as you can donate.

Questions about helping children in Africa
The questions we are asked most often.
How can I help children in Africa?
Give to a specific project, such as food, aids or school supplies, and choose a charity that shows what happens with your money. With us, every project has its own page and a report in the annual documents.
Can I sponsor one child in Africa?
No, we do not have a sponsorship programme for one child. We help groups of children at once through a project, and for each project we show what has been achieved.
Why nutritious porridge?
Nutritious porridge is a simple way to give malnourished children extra nutrition. In Jinja in 2024 we helped a local organisation set up its own production line, so it can make the porridge itself.
Where in Africa do you help children?
In Uganda, mainly in villages around Kampala, where our permanent partner is based. In 2024 we also did a project in Jinja, with a local organisation there.
Can I start my own fundraiser for children in Africa?
Yes. You can raise money with your class, club or family. Email us beforehand, and your proceeds will go to the next project for children.
How do I choose a reliable charity for children?
Check whether the charity is listed in the trade register, publishes its annual documents and shows per project what has been achieved. On our page giving safely you can read six checks you can do yourself.
