About the foundation

Who we are and who we work with

What does Stichting Hart voor Afrika do?

We are a Dutch foundation that supports local projects in Africa: clean drinking water, food security, education, health and hygiene, social support and self-reliance. Every project is prepared, carried out and accounted for together with a local partner. The first projects took place in 2022; the foundation was formally set up on 28 July 2023.

In which countries and places is the foundation active?

Our project focus is in Uganda, especially in villages and communities in the Kampala region, such as Lweza (Muchanga) and Bombo. In 2024 we also carried out a one-off project in Jinja.

Which local organisations does the foundation work with?

Our regular partner is The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council in Kampala, with whom we have worked since 2022. In 2024 there was also a one-off collaboration with a local organisation in Jinja, for a project around self-reliance and children.

Projects & how we work

How a project comes about and is checked

How are projects selected?

The local need comes first. Our partner in Kampala signals where help is needed, after which we examine the proposal for feasibility and costs. The board assesses and approves every project before money is spent.

How is it checked whether projects have been carried out?

Projects are carried out on site and documented with photos and videos, and checked again on a later trip. For example, the 2023 water well was checked on site in 2024: the well is in use every day. The account per project is in the annual documents.

Were any projects carried out in 2025 and 2026?

No. 2025 was a deliberate rest year without a project trip or campaign, and 2026 is such a rest year too: no project trips or campaigns are planned this year. The projects carried out earlier keep running; the water well in Muchanga is in use every day. In the meantime the board is working on the foundation's fresh start: the next project starts after the summer of 2027, in the autumn. The annual reports explain this.

Donate

What happens with your contribution

What is my donation spent on?

Donations are spent on projects that the board has approved in advance, such as food parcels and water well projects. We account for the spending publicly in the annual reports and annual accounts on the transparency page.

Can I donate to a specific project?

Yes. We raise money per project, each with its own target amount, as with a water well. The next project starts in the autumn of 2027. Then mention in your transfer which project or theme you want to support, or email us in advance; we will make sure your gift ends up there.

How does the foundation deal with travel and other expenses?

For every project trip we make a cost estimate in advance. Travel and project expenses, such as flights, accommodation and local transport, go through a separate expenses fund with its own target amount. The founder can advance these costs; if the target amount is not reached in time, the founder makes up the difference or it is settled. That way project donations remain available for the projects themselves.

Transparency & contact

Accountability and how to reach us

How is financial transparency safeguarded?

We publish annual reports and annual accounts per reporting year. Project money and expenses are administered separately, and every project has its own page with background, goal, execution and result.

Where can I find the annual documents?

All annual reports and annual accounts can be downloaded on the transparency page, ordered by reporting year. They are in Dutch.

How can I get in touch?

By email at info@stichtinghartvoorafrika.nl, by telephone on +31 (0) 85 333 4300, or through the form on the contact page. Email is the best way to reach us.
