Background
In October 2022 the founder travelled to Uganda at his own expense, intending to bring aid directly to families, without intermediaries. Through the national mosque in Kampala it became clear which families in the surrounding villages struggled to get enough food.
Goal
To give the families who needed it most at that moment a complete food parcel with basic products from local markets.
Execution
Together with the partner organisation, forty food parcels were put together and handed out in the village of Lweza, with maize flour, rice, sugar, salt and soap, among other things. A fundraiser in the Netherlands then raised € 2,020 in two days. That paid for sixty larger parcels (about € 32 per parcel), enough for about a month, with 10 kg of maize flour, 5 kg of rice, 5 kg of beans, sugar, oil and tea, among other things. These parcels were handed out in the village of Bombo. Everything was deliberately bought at local markets, so the money also benefited local traders.
Result
In total, one hundred families received a food parcel. During the distribution in Lweza the poor water supply stood out; that observation became the reason for the 2023 water project. This trip was the start of the regular partnership with The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council and of the foundation as it exists today.
