Our field of work

Education

Education gives children a grip on their own future. That is why it is one of the six themes of Stichting Hart voor Afrika. This theme covers school supplies and better places to learn, so that children can focus on what counts: learning. So far we have helped with school supplies. Would you like to support children more broadly than through education alone? Then read more about helping children in Africa.

Our approach

How do we approach this theme?

Local need first

We only start what is really needed on site, on the advice of our regular local partner in Kampala.

Practical and tangible

School supplies and improvements to places of learning: aid you can see and check.

Open accountability

Every item of spending appears in our public annual reports and annual accounts.

From the annual reports

What has already been done?

On 21 and 22 August 2024 we held a children's festival in Jinja, with about fifty children each day. Half of them had a disability, the other half did not, and they played together. Every child went home with their own set of school materials: exercise books, pens, rulers and maths sets.

A set like this is more than a present: in the region, a child without school supplies is often not admitted to school. About one hundred sets went home this way. They were part of project Jinja, which we carried out in 2024 together with a local organisation in Jinja.

Where do we stand now?

We have not yet carried out a stand-alone education project, and like 2025, 2026 is a deliberate rest year without a project trip. The next project starts in the autumn of 2027. Our regular partner in Kampala proposes villages for it, and the board approves the project before we raise any money. If an education project starts, you will read about it on this site and in our news overview.
