Our field of work
Social support
Not every need fits in a box. Sometimes the biggest difference is a family that can catch its breath again, or a child who can play carefree for a day. This theme covers basic needs and support for people who have no one to fall back on, with an eye for families and mental wellbeing.
Our approach
How do we approach this theme?
Close to people
We work through our regular local partner in Kampala; that way support reaches families who really need it.
More than goods
From food parcels to a carefree festival day: support can also be light and human.
Open accountability
Every item of spending appears in our public annual reports and annual accounts.
From the annual reports
What has already been done?
In October 2022 we handed out one hundred food parcels to families in the villages of Lweza and Bombo. In August 2024 we organised a two-day children’s festival for about one hundred children, half with and half without a disability, playing together. And the wheelchairs and the nutritious porridge from 2023 were, at heart, social support too: families who had no one to fall back on gained a shoulder to lean on.

Social support runs as a common thread through all our projects. There is no separate project under this heading yet, and like 2025, 2026 is a deliberate rest year without a project trip. After the rest years this theme is open for a next project year.
